Transitions That Work is a consulting service for transsexuals who plan to transition on the job, their coworkers, and their employers. We offer help in planning a successful transition, guidance for employers dealing with transition issues, and diversity training about transsexualism. We have available our brochure for employers; a paper version is available on request. We also have two books available: Transsexual Workers: An Employer's Guide and Working with a Transsexual: A Guide for Coworkers. The employer's book explains transsexualism and the process of transitioning from one sex to the other in plain language. Guidance is offered to employers and managers on every aspect of transition, from which restroom a transsexual employee should use to the application of nondiscrimination statutes to transgendered persons. Potential problem areas in the workplace are addressed, and a resource section points the way to additional books, websites, videos, and more. The coworker's book contains the same information about transsexualism and transitioning, but in the context of a transsexual woman's story. Questions coworkers frequently ask are answered, and pictures of transsexual professionals are included.

Full Circle of Women is a radically
different, politically incorrect exploration of what it means
to be a woman. This conference occurs each year in New England
and in Washington state and is for people of all shapes who identify
as women. It brings together preop, postop, and nonop transsexual
women, intersex women, and nontranssexual women to promote understanding
and explore issues of gender and transgender. Check out our brochure. Also available is an article
describing the FCOW (as participants like to call it) experience
by Janis, who founded the conference in 1993.
Other Services We do lectures, seminars, and training sessions for a wide variety of audiences, including high school students, undergrad and graduate college students, practicing therapists, HR and EAP personnel, and anyone else who will listen. We can provide supervision for psychotherapists who are counseling people with gender identity and sexual orientation issues.
Janis Walworth has an MS in Counseling
from Fitchburg (Massachusetts) State College. She provides training
and supervision for therapists, human resources personnel, and
other professionals addressing transgender issues. She introduces
students, employees and other groups to transgender issues through
diversity workshops. She has been an advocate and counselor to
members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities
since 1985. Her conferences bridge gaps between the women's, lesbian,
and transsexual communities.
Michele Kammerer was employed
by the Los Angeles City Fire Department as a Firefighter and Captain
from 1969 to 2003. She transitioned from male to female on the
job in 1991. She provides support for transsexuals experiencing
difficulties in their employment and educates helping professionals
and the general public about transsexualism. She has appeared
on the Phil Donahue Show, 20/20, the Roseanne Show, and other
television and radio programs.
